Illinois Fairgrounds Coliseum

Name the Coliseum Contest

Why the New Name?

Built in 1901, the Coliseum has been one of the premier showpieces of the Illinois State Fairgrounds. It was recently declared ‘unusable’ because of structural deficiencies. The Illinois Fairgrounds Foundation jumped into action, soliciting donations to restore the facility. Numerous donations, along with a $1 Million contribution from Governor and Mrs. Rauner, have now enabled the Coliseum to be fully restored and reopened in time for the 2019 Illinois State Fair! Part of this reopening also incorporated a brand new name for the Coliseum, and Illinois FFA, 4-H and Junior Horsemen Council members were invited to participate in a contest to determine the new name!

The deadline for all entries was December 14, 2018. We appreciate all those who participated.

AND THE WINNER IS….

Congratulations to Emma Eathington (Fairview Huskies 4-H), Elaina Kessler (Clay City FFA) & Kylie Neisler (Country Roots 4-H Club of Montgomery County) who all 3 submitted the winning entry of The Coliseum of Champions!

We received numerous entries and are very appreciative of everyone who submitted their ideas. The Illinois Fairgrounds Foundation was excited to involve the youth in this endeavor. You are the future of Illinois and the agricultural community and we are honored to have you participate in the naming of the Coliseum – one of the most iconic buildings on the Illinois State Fairgrounds.
